I like to use foobar to convert mp3, ape, flac, etc. It's quick, easy, and guarantees the burning program doesn't screw up the decode. Nero might default to 2 sec between tracks, while the CD might have been burned with 0 sec between tracks, or vice versa. Not exactly a big deal. Thanks to all for these helpful answers. In the end, Nero ended up yielding a working CD, in spite of the verification errors. Since it's a sound, and not a data CD, I won't worry about the errors. A verification error is simply Nero saying "I wrote this, but the disc contains this, which is not equal to what I wrote".
It's usually a writer or media problem. Audio is remarkably fault tolerant but if you have verification errors, you do not have a lossless copy. CD-Rs are more work to read for the laser electronics. Click "Add" button on toolbar. The "Add files" dialog will popup. Select the ape files you want to add to the project, then click "Add". You can select multiple ape files at once. The selected ape files will be checked and added to current project. Repeat this step to add all needed files to the project. Please make sure that the added ape files will not exceed the compact disc capacity.
You can also remove the file from the project by selecting it in the list, then click "Delete" button on toolbar. The "Burn" dialog will popup.
